Vintage Moments: Feathered Star with Le Moyne Star Center Medallion Quilt Designed by Marsha McCloskey Dimensions: 90" x 90" The Feathered Star central panel is surrounded by 4 pieced borders: a Dogtooth border, a Le Moyne Star border containing sixteen 9" blocks*, a Fan border containing forty-four 4-1/2" blocks (8 more Fan blocks are included in the central panel and outer border), and a Sawtooth border containing 212 two-triangle squares that are 1-1/2" finished. Three plain borders are also included in the design. Sewing techniques used in this quilt are rotary cutting; machine pieced straight, set-in and curved seams; bias-strip piecing; machine paper foundation piecing; and machine appliqué. * PLEASE NOTE: The Le Moyne Star blocks in the border are 9" finished and should measure 9-1/2" including seam allowances. The Le Moyne star in the center of the Feathered Star is 8-1/2" finished, 9" with seam allowances. Materials: Colors: You’ll need a rainbow variety of assorted pastel 1930s reproduction prints for colored areas. Buying fat quarter yards is a good way to get the variety of prints needed for this scrappy look. | This ruler was designed to measure from the center. Make extremely accurate 4-triangles squares by first cutting the triangles large than they need to be, then stitching the triangles to make a square. Center the Precision Trimmer 3 on the sewn unit and trim the edges to the perfect size. |
